The Allegheny Health Network (AHN), a leading integrated healthcare system in Western and Northwest PA, is recruiting a highly accomplished and visionary surgeon to serve as the System Chief of Trauma Surgery to lead a high-volume, nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center. This senior academic leader will oversee the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the Division of Trauma Surgery within the Surgery Institute.
Job Duties
The Division Chief will play a key role in advancing trauma, critical care, and acute care surgery programs while fostering excellence in patient outcomes, faculty development, education, and scholarly activity. Reporting to the System Chair of the Surgical Institute, your responsibilities will include:
- Clinical Leadership:
- Provide strategic oversight and clinical leadership for trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery services
- Ensure excellence in patient care, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with hospital leadership on trauma system development and regional outreach
- Administrative & Strategic Leadership:
- Lead division operations including faculty recruitment, retention, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Develop and execute a long-term strategic vision aligned with departmental and institutional priorities
- Manage divisional budgets and support service line growth
- Faculty development & Mentorship:
- Mentor junior faculty and trainees
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and professional development within the division
- Research & Scholarship:
- Foster a culture of academic inquiry and research excellence
- Support clinical, translational, outcomes, and health services research
- Encourage extramural funding, publications, and national presentations
Job Qualifications
- MD or DO degree and board certification in General Surgery
- Fellowship-trained in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care
- Pennsylvania medical licensure (or eligibility) required
- Demonstrated leadership experience in trauma or acute care surgery within an academic setting
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to patient care, research, and education.
- DEA and CPR Certification required prior to employment.
- Academic appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor of Surgery
