Summary:

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Surgeon or Surgical Technologist, the Surgical Technologist Intern facilitates the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The surgical technologist intern possesses knowledge in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the understanding of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities:

Engages in in both didactic and practical components of the Surgical Technology role

Under the guidance of the YRMC Surgical Technologist Educator and working under the direct supervision of physicians and nurses Surgical Technologists interns will learn to assist the surgeons during surgical procedures.

Performs a variety of critical hands-on tasks, including: Preparing operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments and equipment; Passing instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons during surgical procedures; Maintaining a proper sterile field throughout the surgical process; Monitoring and assessing operating room conditions.

Other information:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent and zero years of experience.

Must have passed Anatomy and Physiology II

Required: Basic Life Support
