Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon for Lahey Hospital and Medical Center
The Division of General Surgery of Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is seeking a surgeon to join its growing six-member Acute Care Surgery (ACS) section.
Scope of Work:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Work well with a multidisciplinary team including residents, advanced practice providers, students, and other support staff.
- Run one of two busy daytime ACS services with a daily census of 20-25 patients.
- Be involved in nighttime and weekend in-house call coverage with responsibilities including consultation for emergency general surgery, trauma, surgical rescue and emergency colorectal and bariatric surgery cases; SICU coverage; difficult airway response team; and non-emergency central venous access team.
- Participate in the Division’s quality and process improvement efforts, and other administrative work as designated by the Chair or ACS Medical Director.
- Educate surgical residents, and medical students from both the University of Massachusetts and Tufts medical schools
- Pursue and maintain an active trauma/ACS-related research interest of their choice.
- Note:
o For this role, there is currently no intention for daytime weekly SICU staffing participation. However, SICU clinical rotations may be available in the future.
o Evolution of this role to support an elective general surgery clinical practice is anticipated.
Minimum Requirements for Candidacy:
- Completion of General Surgery residency and Surgical Critical Care fellowship
- Board certified or board-eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care (with eligibility period consistent with Lahey’s Medical Staff Association guidelines).
- Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Eligibility for academic appointment at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and work well with others.
- Must participate in clinical research in the field of trauma and acute care surgery during period of employment.
About Lahey:
Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is a 396-bed tertiary-care hospital and Level I trauma center of the Beth Israel Lahey Health Network. It is the principal referral center for Beverly Hospital, Winchester Hospital, Anna Jaques Hospital, and Addison Gilbert Hospital. It manages 1,800 trauma activations annually, and about an equal number of cases requiring emergency general surgical care. About 17 miles north of Boston, it is situated in Burlington, MA, a family-friendly town with good schools and also headquarters to several multinational companies.

Pay Range:
$375,000 USD - $450,000 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation may be determined based on several factors, that may include education, training, relevant experience, specialty, geography of work location, productivity, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include productivity and quality bonuses.
