The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is looking for a locum Thoracic Surgeon and a permanent Thoracic Surgeon. The department of General Surgery at present consists of five general surgeons, two hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons, one bariatric surgeon, and two vascular surgeons.
The thoracic surgery team performs more than 60 major pulmonary resections plus 20-30 esophageal resections for cancer annually. There is a very high volume of benign esophageal disease. More than 85% of cases are conducted minimally invasively. Dedicated thoracic surgery MIS OR is available and access to daVinci surgical robot is also available at a partner hospital.
Thoracic surgeons are well-supported by Interventional Radiology, Gastroenterology, Intensive Care, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Pathology, all ancillary services and expert surgical/clinical assist and dedicated nursing staff. As such, the preferred candidate must have an excellent record of success working in a multidisciplinary clinical setting.
Incentives & Remuneration
Remuneration for these positions depends on the type of opportunity. More details will be provided. Hours of work are typically between 08:00 and 16:00, Monday to Friday.

Urban recruitment incentive of $50,000.00 with a 2-year return of service, may be available.
Moving expense reimbursement is also available.

The Moncton Hospital is a teaching hospital and part of Horizon’s strategic plan to grow research and innovation. Members of the Division are required to be part of the medical education program partnering with Dalhousie University New Brunswick. Members are eligible for an academic appointment with Dalhousie University.
Requirements
Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. The Department of General Surgery, specific to its divisions of General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery, requires that its active and courtesy members have passed the examination of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
Job Duties:
Daily inpatient rounds
Conduct elective surgery sessions as assigned by the OR Utilization Committee and on an emergency after-hours basis, as needed
Inpatient and Emergency Department consultations
Multidisciplinary thoracic oncology rounds
Hospital-based clinics
Maintain office hours
Involvement in teaching residents and medical students
Bronchoscopy, EBUS, GI endoscopy suite
NCIC affiliated and opportunities exist for research
