Cardiothoracic Surgery Leadership Opportunity, Texas
You'll step into an established cardiothoracic surgery program with clear near-term growth as the current lead surgeon transitions toward retirement/part-time. This is a Cardiothoracic Surgery role with a strong cardio service line and the infrastructure to support expanded surgical volume. Practice Overview
- You'll join 1 full-time and 1 part-time CT surgeon, with cardiology support from 4 interventional cardiologists and 2 general cardiologist.
- One-hospital practice; clinic is steps from the hospital
- Current procedures include CABG; historical volume includes mitral and aortic valve procedures with interest and patient volume to offer again; thoracic surgeries; option for vascular procedures.
- Strong support model with an acute care NP plus cardiology, a cardiovascular care coordinator, and cardiovascular program manager; EMR: Meditech Expanse.
Schedule
- Typical routine: cases start at 7:30am; clinic currently one afternoon per week (clinic starts at 1pm); 1-2 surgery days/week with capacity to support more.
- Schedule structure is largely dependent on surgeon preference.
- No general call listed; specialty call is low-program reports no emergent CTOR transfers for many years, with <0.4% emergent surgery alignment to national stats.
- Interventional cardiology capabilities (e.g., Impella, covered stents) help stabilize patients and reduce emergent operative burden.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $800K (range $800K-$850K) with $900K+ earning potential; leadership position; annual retention bonus negotiable.
- Sign-on and commencement bonus; relocation assistance: $20K; student loan assistance available.
- Paid malpractice with tail coverage; comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
- Time off and retirement: 21 days PTO; 10 CME days + $3,000 annual CME allowance; defined benefit retirement program and 457 deferred compensation plan.
Candidate Requirements
- MD/DO; Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Fellows considered
- Ideally 5+ years of experience.
