Description
Piedmont Columbus Northside is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Surgical Services to lead our dynamic surgical team at our 100-bed acute care campus. This leader will oversee the strategic and operational direction of a comprehensive surgical program delivering advanced inpatient and outpatient care. Our Northside campus offers a wide range of specialties, including orthopedics, spine, general surgery, urology, bariatric, gynecologic, and plastic and reconstructive services. The role provides an exciting opportunity to support and grow robotic-assisted procedures utilizing a state-of-the-art da Vinci surgical system. The Director will partner closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and staff to drive quality outcomes, patient safety, and operational excellence. In addition, the leader will ensure seamless coordination with our 20-bed Emergency Department to support emergent surgical needs. Responsible for assuming administrative responsibility for all areas/functions of the Perioperative Services Division on a 24/7 basis including, but not limited to, pre-procedure testing, Pre-Op, Main OR, Ambulatory and Minor Surgery, PACU, GI Lab, Sterile Processing, and Central Service. Develops policies and procedures as well as the quality improvement programs for areas of responsibility. Develops the capital and operating budgets for Perioperative Services Division. Ensures areas of responsibility are appropriately staffed, including interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
What you will do
Ensures safe staffing needs are consistently met using workload measurement data and clinical judgment.
Develops budgets for assigned areas and ensures cost effective and cost-efficient use of resources.
Provides direction and input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental issues in preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets.
Leads departmental strategic planning and policy-making and engages in decision-making through membership on hospital and departmental committees.
Promotes communication among patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members.
Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
Supports the development and sustainment of Shared Governance and its functions related to Nursing Evaluation, Peer Review, Policy/Procedures, and Standards of Nursing Practice.
Serves as a clinical resource contact for patients, families, nursing staff, other health care members and external agencies.
Ensures unit orientation programs meet learning needs of new employees and prepare staff to fulfill requirements of position.
Provides for, and coordinates, unit-based educational programs.
Assesses staff needs for supervision, resources, and direction.
Identifies clinical and professional educational needs to promote staff development and mentors staff to identify personal learning needs.
Evaluates the quality of patient care provided in assigned areas through collaboration with department, hospital and corporate resources.
Assures policies and procedures are in compliance with those of the hospital, health system, division of nursing, and all regulatory agencies.

Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or another related field Required
Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field Preferred
Work Experience
5 years experience to include three (3) years of progressive management/leadership experience Required
Licenses and Certifications
RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure If a Registered Nurse, must have current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License Required
Certification in area of clinical specialty Preferred
