MaineHealth Orthopedics is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Foot & Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our growing, high-volume orthopedic practice in Portland, Maine. This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of a collaborative, patient-focused team serving the orthopedic needs of southern Maine and beyond.
Our practice offers a positive, team-based culture where physicians work closely with experienced orthopedic colleagues, advanced practice providers, therapists, and support staff. Due to continued growth and strong community demand, we are expanding our Foot & Ankle Surgery program and seeking a surgeon who is committed to delivering exceptional patient care while contributing to the ongoing success of our multidisciplinary team.
Position Highlights
- Full-time position (1.0 FTE)
- Established orthopedic practice with significant referral volume and regional demand
- Approximately 60% operating room time and 40% clinic time
- Dedicated block time in the operating room and access to a new ambulatory surgery center
- Manageable shared call schedule
Clinical Scope
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for disorders of the lower extremity, including:
- Tendon disorders, including Achilles, peroneal, and posterior tibial tendon pathology
- Foot and ankle arthritis
- Ligament injuries, including ankle sprains and Lisfranc injuries
- Minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair
- Flatfoot and cavovarus reconstruction
- Ankle, calcaneus, and foot fractures
- Plantar fasciitis
- Metatarsalgia
- Bunions
- Neuromas
- Hammertoes
- Foot and ankle arthroscopy
- Post-traumatic lower extremity reconstruction
- Charcot neuroarthropathy
Whenever appropriate, our team emphasizes minimally invasive surgical techniques and evidence-based treatment approaches to optimize patient outcomes.
Teaching Opportunities
As part of MaineHealth's academic environment, the position includes opportunities to:
- Teach and mentor medical students during clinical rotations
- Collaborate with orthopedic fellows
- Participate in educational and academic activities within the department
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
- Fellowship training in Foot & Ankle Surgery required
- New graduates and experienced surgeons are encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care
- Strong work ethic, collaborative mindset, and team-oriented approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
