- General Surgery Categorical PGY-3 Resident
Description
The General Surgery Residency Program at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. has an open ACGME-accredited Categorical PGY-3 training position beginning July 1, 2026. Please see the specific requirements and instructions for applying below. Note: It is the policy of The George Washington University to sponsor J-1 Visas only.
PREREQUISITES (no exceptions):
Successful completion in good standing of two (2) years of U.S. clinical training in an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency training program (or currently enrolled as a PGY-2 for the 2025-26 academic year).
Must have graduated from an Accredited Medical School and/or International Medical Graduates must have a valid ECFMG certificate (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)

Brief Personal Statement
Medical School Diploma and Transcript
Dean's Letter
USMLE Parts I, II, III scores (must be first pass) or COMLEX I, II-CE, III scores
ABSITE scores and reports for ALL years completed
Three (3) current Letters of Recommendation, including one from the current Program Director is required.
Rotation schedule with Competency-Based Evaluations for ALL completed rotations
Current year semi-annual Evaluation
Current ACGME “General Surgery Defined Category and Minimum” and “General Surgery Year 2 Minimum” case log reports
ACLS and ATLS certifications (does not need to be active)
FLS and FES Certifications (if available)
Copy of ECFMG (if applicable)
Copy of current DS2019 for J-1 Visa holders (if applicable)
