Position Title: PGY-3 Integrated Thoracic Surgery Resident (I-6) – Open Position
Program Year: PGY-3
Start Date: June 24, 2026

Program Overview
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Integrated Thoracic Surgery (I-6) Residency Program offers comprehensive training in adult cardiac surgery, general thoracic surgery, and congenital heart surgery. Our program emphasizes clinical excellence, academic development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and leadership in patient care. Residents benefit from a structured curriculum, progressive operative autonomy, and opportunities for research and professional growth.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of two years in an ACGME-accredited integrated thoracic surgery program, or a combination of a - minimum of one year in an ACGME-accredited program in surgery or integrated vascular surgery and a minimum of one year in an ACGME-accredited integrated thoracic surgery program
- Must be in good standing within their current training program.
- Eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina.
- Must meet all institutional and ACGME requirements for appointment.
Application Requirements
Applicants should submit the following materials as a single application packet:
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Cover Letter outlining your interest in the position
- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation, including: One letter from your current or most recent Program Director and two letters of reference from members of the medical staff of the hospital affiliated with the residency program from which the applicant has most recently served.
- Medical School Transcripts
- USMLE or COMLEX Score Report (all passed on first attempt)
- In-Training Examination Results (if available)
- List of Completed Rotations for All Years of Training
- ACLS/BLS, ATLS Certificates
